Imagine you’re the center of a little tornado, and all of your own problems are the dirt and debris swirling around you.

So imagine you find a friend, perhaps someone you often talk to, and as you begin speaking to them, they get pulled into your tornado, and become covered with your own dirt and debris, until they feel just as bad as you do.

Now imagine that your friend somehow manages to pull free. 

Suddenly you’re left alone again, with that same swirling tornado of problems, looking for another person to share them with. 

But no one is available. 

The tornado is getting stronger, more powerful, and it seems as if you might not be able to survive. 

But just when it seems the strongest, you begin to turn inward, in order to avoid the intense stress of all that bad weather.

And as you turn inward, focusing away from the tornado and the problems that surround you, you become more peaceful. 

And it feels better. And you notice that the more you focus within, and the further inside you go, the more calm you become, and the better you feel.

Going deeper still, you come to a lake, serene and perfect, at your very center. 

It’s a beautiful lake, surrounded by high mountains and pine trees, reflecting the sun. 

Birds are flying overhead, and now and then a fish will break the surface of this placid lake, making ripples out from the center.

There’s a large smooth outcropping of rock by the edge of the water, a fine place to sit and contemplate the lake. 

As you sit, a deep feeling of calm gathers within you. 

All the problems you so desperately wanted to talk about with others seem rather insignificant and distant now. 

Instead, you feel quite settled, and at peace.

A journal appears in your hands, and you find yourself writing down a few things that you might have normally sought other people’s attention for. 

And as you write, a dialog begins, between you, and your own higher guidance. 

It’s as if the lake, that part deep within you, were listening, really hearing you, and gently guiding you toward the comfort, and answers you’ve been seeking. Take a few moments here, as you imagine connecting within, to this deep source of comfort, and wisdom.

Now that you know about this source within, you have a choice. 

You can either focus outwardly, exaggerate your problems, and pull others into your drama. 

Or you can cultivate the habit of going within, settling down, and connecting with the peace that’s already inside of you.

Are you afraid to be alone? 

Do you worry that if you don’t rope people into your drama, that no one will come for you? 

The amazing thing is that people are more attracted to you when you’re calm, and interested in listening to them, rather than telling them about yourself.

Imagine you’re with someone who you normally enjoy being around, someone you might normally tell all your problems to. 

And imagine that this time, instead of the usual, you’re asking about them, and listening to what they have to say about their own life.

Notice how engaged they become with you. 

Notice how they warm up to you, and seem to light up. 

And notice that they’re not trying to get away from you, as they might normally do. 

This is the payoff for being interested and listening to others. 

They tend to like you, and want to be around you. 

Take a few moments to imagine yourself in this kind of relationship, with several other individuals, now.

Listen to the following affirmations, and allow them to resonate, deep within.

I am interested in other people, especially those closest to me, and am making it a point to ask about their lives.

I am carefully listening to what others have to say, and finding deep fulfillment in quietly hearing about them.

I am enjoying helping other people, and forgetting my own problems as I do.

I understand that my problems are only as big as I make them, so I am seeing things in proportion, and focusing on the good things in my life.

I am happy to let others get the attention they need and am quietly listening and supporting them.

It will soon be time to bring this inner journey to a close.
